Environmental Engineering

Decota Consulting Company, Inc. offers a broad range of mining, environmental and permitting services. Our staff has a combined total of over 100 years experience in all areas of mining related projects and we have completed projects in the Appalachian and Illinois Basins.

Permitting and Design

Our permitting services include the completion of Surface Mine Applications for new mine operations, renewals for existing mine operations, National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) individual permits, section 404 permit applications from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and section 401 permit applications from the State Department of Environmental Protection. Our staff are uniquely positioned to streamline the permitting process as much as possible due to our excellent working relationship with the various state and federal government regulatory agencies involved. Our years of experience, quality of work and attention to detail build on our existing relationships with theses agencies and ensure a completed product in a timely manner.

Geologic Modeling and Reserve Analysis

Our staff will utilize geologic modeling techniques to determine the geometry and placement of underground mineral deposits. From this data we will determine the concentration and volumes of the mineral in the investigated area. Economic constraints, structural framework and mineral quality are then applied to the model to determine the value of extraction. Plans for mineral extraction are determined by the ability of the client to make an economic extraction of the defined mineral.

Environmental Liability Assessments

Our services also include environmental evaluations and reclamation liability assessments. Our liability assessment will provide a cost-benefit analysis and identify potential or existing environmental contamination liabilities. The underlying property as well as physical improvements to the property will be considered during the evaluation. By drawing upon our extensive experience and knowledge of the industry we can provide environmental information and future cost estimates in a decision making context.

Valley Fill Assessment and Certification

Our valley fill assessment and certification procedures comply with regulations identified by the WVDEP Division of Mining and Reclamation. Our staff will provide a certified report containing a statement that the fill is being constructed and maintained as designed in accordance with the approved plan. This report will be certified by a registered professional engineer on staff and be submitted within two weeks following completion of the inspections.
