AML North Contract 6 Environmental assessments
For these projects, Decota Consulting Company, Inc. conducted multiple Environmental Assessments (EAs) on behalf of the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) Office of Abandoned Mine Lands and Reclamation for Abandoned Mine Land (AML) sites across West Virginia. The purpose of these EAs was to identify and evaluate the potential physical, environmental, cultural, and socioeconomic impacts associated with the reclamation of various AML hazards, including open mine portals, dangerous impoundments, highwalls, gob piles, and landslides posing risks to public health, safety, and the environment. Across these assessments, Decota analyzed the environmental consequences of the Proposed Action alternatives alongside No Action alternatives, and in some cases additional action alternatives, to determine the most effective and environmentally responsible reclamation approach.
