Benthic Assessments

Decota staff has years of experience conducting aquatic benthic macroinvertebrate sampling, including benthic collection, processing, and identification. Decota has extensive knowledge of both state and federal protocols regarding benthic collection and identification procedures and employs Society for Freshwater Science-certified benthic taxonomists. Our staff also has extensive experience utilizing both the WVSCI and GLIMPSS calculation methods in order to help determine biological stream conditions and ecosystem health. Decota also regularly coordinates with the WVDNR in order to obtain annual collection permits and submit annual benthic database results. Overall, these benthic assessments are utilized in preparation of WV SWVM credit determinations, annual BAS monitoring, and bioassessments to assist with permitting for a project and permit compliance purposes.
